Alstef Group’s Activities and Projects in the Indian Market
India is a burgeoning market for airport logistics, driven by exponential growth in passenger traffic and infrastructural development. Alstef Group is proud to be actively exploring opportunities to bring our globally recognised expertise to India, where we are focusing on delivering tailored solutions that meet the unique needs of this dynamic market.
Strategies for Expanding Presence in India
Alstef Group’s strategy to expand in India is anchored by our commitment to building a strong local presence. A key milestone in this journey is our new office and assembly facility in Pune. This facility serves as both a strategic hub for regional operations and a centre for local assembly of our airport automation solutions. By combining global expertise with local production capabilities, we can offer cost-effective solutions while ensuring faster delivery and localised support.

Additionally, our Pune facility strengthens our ability to collaborate closely with Indian stakeholders, ensuring compliance with regional regulatory requirements and addressing specific market challenges such as scalability and sustainability. Through this local presence, we aim to foster long-term partnerships, leverage local talent, and contribute to the rapid development of India’s aviation infrastructure.
Sustainable Practices in Airport Solutions for India
Sustainability is at the heart of Alstef Group’s mission. We prioritise designing and delivering solutions that promote sustainable supply networks and environmentally conscious operations. A prime example is our XSORT cross-belt sorter, which is engineered for energy efficiency and durability. XSORT minimises energy consumption while maximising throughput, reducing the carbon footprint of baggage handling operations.

In India, we are committed to integrating green technologies and sustainable design principles into every project. By leveraging local supply chains, we aim to reduce transportation emissions and support the regional economy. Furthermore, our focus on modular, scalable solutions ensures that systems can be upgraded or reconfigured, extending their lifecycle and reducing waste. Through close collaboration with stakeholders, we strive to meet both the operational needs of airports and their long-term environmental goals.
Upcoming Projects and Partnerships in India
We are currently working on projects in Jaipur and Goa and have onsite teams supporting baggage systems in Cochin, Indore and Gwalior. While we cannot disclose specifics due to ongoing discussions, we are actively engaging with leading airports and aviation authorities in India to explore collaborations for baggage handling and automation solutions. Our focus remains on delivering value-driven systems that meet the country’s ambitious aviation growth plans.
Adapting Technologies to Indian Market Needs
The Indian market presents unique challenges, such as high passenger volumes, space constraints, and cost sensitivities. Alstef Group adapts its technologies to these conditions by developing solutions like our XSORT cross-belt sorter and BAGSHUTTLE low-bay bag storage system that optimises space utilisation while maintaining peak efficiency. Our scalable solutions cater to both large international hubs and smaller regional airports.
Comparison of Approach in India vs. Global Markets
While our commitment to innovation and quality remains consistent globally, our approach in India emphasises localisation. By leveraging local talent, partnerships, and an understanding of regional nuances, we ensure that our systems are not only cutting-edge but also well-suited to the Indian aviation ecosystem.
Development and Role of AGVs in Enhancing Operations
Alstef Group’s Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) are revolutionising airport logistics by providing innovative solutions for baggage and cargo handling. These versatile vehicles can seamlessly manage exception cases in baggage handling or serve as a transformative alternative to traditional conveyor systems. In air cargo transportation, our specialised AVILOAD and AVIBATCH AGV solutions significantly reduce reliance on manual processes, enhancing both operational safety and efficiency. By integrating cutting-edge technology, our AGVs set a new standard for streamlined and reliable airport operations.
Efficiency and Safety Contributions of AGVs
AGVs enhance efficiency through seamless integration with existing systems and real-time operational adaptability. They reduce human intervention, lowering the risk of workplace accidents and ensuring uninterrupted operations during peak and off-peak hours. We are actively exploring opportunities to introduce AGVs to Indian airports as part of our localised solutions.
A couple of additional info about safety:
- Our AGVs are equipped with advanced safety features for overall protection of your loads, operators and environment.
- For 10 years, Alstef Group has been an active member of the committees drafting the driverless truck safety standards.
Latest Advancements in AGV Technology
Alstef Group’s AGVs incorporate advanced navigation systems, AI-driven path optimisation, and smart energy management. These innovations are shaping the future of airport logistics by enabling smarter and more sustainable operations.
Customisation for Indian Airports
Our AGVs are highly customisable to address diverse airport layouts, traffic volumes, and regulatory standards. For Indian airports, we aim to integrate solutions that are cost-effective, scalable, and adaptable to high-density environments.

Case Studies and Success Stories
Air France Cargo – Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport :
At the G1XL station, a pivotal hub in Air France-KLM’s cargo network, Alstef Group retrofitted a fleet of 30 Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) designed to transport freight pallets weighing up to 7 tons. A later comprehensive project upgrade included a complete logistics analysis, an AGV refurbishment, and control system migration, resulting in improved AGV fluidity and increased operational performance.
Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport – Baggage Handling System and BAGXONE AGV:
Alstef Group completed the commissioning of a cutting-edge baggage handling system at Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport in Serbia. This project, awarded by Vinci in December 2021, involved the installation of the BAGXONE Automated Guided Vehicle (AGV) system, enhancing the airport’s baggage handling capabilities. The implementation of BAGXONE provided seamless connectivity between the screening reconciliation zone and the departures make-up carousels.
Future Innovations in AGV Technology
We are continuously innovating in AGV technology, focusing on autonomous decision-making capabilities, enhanced machine learning algorithms, and energy consumption. These advancements will further revolutionise airport logistics and set new benchmarks in operational excellence.
